Reading this news today - and I just couldn't stop questioning the motives behind this. While I think the topic itself is quite relevant to our world today, except the Chinese bit - and here is why:
It talked about Chinese Factory made items and I believe previous researches showed that those workers in China were pretty restricted with what they can do - eg. Apple's manufacturing process is workers getting security screened each day, like airport sanitised area system... you go in with nothing, and come out with nothing, to ensure proprietary info/tech remains at the "controllers", in this case - Apple.
The commentator also talked about BMWs, as far as I recall, those cars are made worldwide depending on the models, which has Africa, America, Germany and a lot more factories. If I wasn't mistaken, I think China Factory was specifically created for domestic market to keep up with the demands within locally. But this is not the point anyway.
The over-the-air issue that the commentator talked about, Elon Musk can do that currently anyway. BMW can do that currently, with ONBOARD COMPUTER! It doesn't need to be made in China to have such "capability". To be fair, we all can disable our own bloody iPhones / Andriod phones over the air nowadays anyway. So what is the specific issue? The server? The capability? Who has the control over the update? Apple or China? Or our own internet network? I thought those are the relevant questions, rather than "Chinese Built"?! Did I get anything wrong?
Piggy back the American research he said would be the ideal solution? Why American only? If there were researches, I would just go for worldwide, reputable ones, regardless of country. I would be quite dumbfounded if UK, NZ, or any other countries don't even consider doing any research on such topics, or should those reports getting rejected because they aren't American? I am totally confused here. Don't get me wrong, I have no issues with America at all, I love their TV dramas too....
At the end of the day, I remember our Prime Minister mentioned stop the dividing, and promote unity... and after reading this news, I couldn't stop myself thinking, is this article bias? Is it creating fear and division among our society? Is it truly reflecting all the info that we ought to know and to understand? Is it asking the right questions, and not pointing fingers?
If there was a "Chilling Element" on this news. I think the chilling / scary bit is that we already have people believing the issue is country specific and perhaps going down the spiral rabbit hole, which is unlikely to address the issues at hand.... What do you think?
PS: I haven't even started talking about investors mixed (foreign investment) within different companies. E.g. are we saying Toyota / BMW etc, have no Chinese investors within? If so, OMG, do we need to fear and worry? Or will those Chinese investors made sure they are protected to ensure their companies are producing within the standards our world is looking for? This is kinda interesting.....
